About
Feminist disability studies is an interdisciplinary academic field and critical theoretical framework situated at the intersection of feminist theory and disability studies. It investigates the complex ways in which gender and disability intersect, analyzing how social, cultural, and political structures produce and maintain intersecting forms of oppression, marginalization, and privilege based on these identities. This field critically examines the gendered experiences of disability, challenges ableist and sexist norms and stereotypes (including those related to sexuality, reproduction, and representation), and advocates for social justice, equity, and liberation for individuals at the nexus of gender and disability, contributing significantly to understandings of identity, power, and embodiment within both parent disciplines.
